What's a good Disk Defragment tool?

Well, if you want to shell out around US $30 then PerfectDisk is a killer software. If you're shopping in the free market, then you really can't beat IOBit's Smart Defrag. Even for a free software, it rivals PerfectDisk and it's arguably a close race.

Maybe a dumb question but what is wrong with the built-in XP disk defragger ???

Hi SirHorace,

In most cases the built-in Disk Defragmenter is sufficient. However, it is prone to problems and doesn't perform the most efficient defragmentation possible. It also tends to have trouble handling very large files (around 1-2GB in size). In these cases, you might want to consider a third-party alternative.

I personally wanted a utility that would collect all the fragments and move them 100% to create the most efficiency. I don't think there is anything wrong with Window's Defrag. I also want a utility that is very user friendly and has options that can be very useful for me.

I also found that in some cases, not all, that outside software is better than the Window's installed software. For example: I have been told Nero is a better burning software than using Windows Media Player.

Just my opinion. I was curious to see what the Windows Guru's opinion on defrag was.

Also, Windows defrag doesn't defragment the swap file, which is annoying at best.
