It is nice to know the Algorithm used in all the Credit Cards transaction and funds. Many peoples have their credits cards and it is hard if there is no method used in organizing it and there would probably a lot of errors. For a lot more people will and probably apply for a credit card sooner or later there will be no problem to create their own unique number.
