Need confirmation on Wireless Equipment
Hi I have 1 piece of wireless equipment lined up here that I would like to purchase..I am planning on extending my wireless network. But i need some help double checking to make sure that each equipment unit would connect to each other without problems..This is the unit that I would be getting for sure..
http://www.fab-corp.com/product.php?...cat=269&page=1 All I need now is a good wifi omni-directional antenna about 12-15 dbi. This is what I have in mind here:http://www.wifi-link.com/product.php...roduct_id=1524 So far I have the linksys wrt54gl router running dd-wrt.So what I would like to do is connect that usb powered wifi amplifier to my linksys router then connect the omni directional antenna to the usb amplifier...So it would look like this Linksys router >>>usb amplifier >>>omni antenna. The main issue I am having is the correct cables which I need to get to connect these 3 items together...Your help will be greatly appreciated..thanks.. |

RE: Need confirmation on Wireless Equipment
You hook up the antenna with a coax cable. You will need a USB Adapter. It will look like this:
PC > Router > USB Cable > USB Amplifier > USB Adapter > Coax Cable > Omni Antenna I'm not sure if the products you chose are compatible but this should answer your question on cables. undefined |

RE: Need confirmation on Wireless Equipment
Yes it does answer my question..But at the time I posted this I ended up doing some more research and I have a new final list I think I might come out better with. Its from wifi-link website:http://www.wifi-link.com/index_ad_at_01.php
The 2 units that I am going to buy to connect to my wrt54gl linksys router are these two here: http://www.wifi-link.com/product.php?act...ct_id=1662 http://www.wifi-link.com/product.php?act...ct_id=1524 from the linksys router would be the amplifier u see there and from the amp would be the omni antenna ofcourse...All i need now is to get the correct type cable assemblies so i can connect everything...So far i know that the router has a rp tnc female attached to it..So i would need a rp tnc male on 1 end of the cable..need to figure out what would be on the other end for the amp and then from the amp to the antenna. |

RE: Need confirmation on Wireless Equipment
Various equipment uses various types of cabling and connectors. The type of cabling is also dependent upon the signal strength and distance. Please post the exact product numbers you plan on using along with a few distance estimates. How far is the antenna from the router? How far is the receiving unit from the antenna? What kind of landscape is between the two? How high will this antenna be mounted? Is the antenna broadcasting a wireless signal or is it bridging two devices such as routers?

RE: Need confirmation on Wireless Equipment
Well to be honest I did all my homework like 6 months ago but was waiting until i got that linksys router. Now that I finally got it I lost all the research and documents I had done and now I need to start from scratch.....I don't understand what u meant by the exact product numbers..but if its the amount of units i plan to use that would be 3,wireless router included. So it would be just my wireless router, amplifier, and omni antenna. My distance estimate I plan to achieve could be about 1000ft if i get more I don't mind.Well at present I have the router inside my house.I plan to put the omni antenna on my roof top..I live in a flats..So u may get an idea of how high that antenna would be mounted.I live on top the tallest hill in my area. There some trees around.Mountains and valleys are like at the 3000ft marker. But my sole purpose of this setup really is to share my internet connection with family that live close to me and probably 2 of my friends. They are all in clear line of sight.I am not to sure the exact height the antenna would be mounted but from the ground to the top of my roof could be about 16ft,and i live on top the tallest hill. And the antenna would just be broadcasting a wireless signal...So if it's possible for me to get the correct type of cabling for these 3 devices to connect to each other that would be an ace for me..thank you.

RE: Need confirmation on Wireless Equipment
The two links you posted show a 15dBi Omni Antenna with RP TNC male.
The booster specs require a 5dBi antenna and a female RP SMA cable. You first need to select an antenna/ booster combo that has the same hook-up requirements. You may want something like this instead: http://www.wifi-link.com/product.php?act...ct_id=1663 It has the RP TNC Adapter The research I did suggests you don't even need a booster like that to accomplish what you want. Like Nilpo said it would be easier to know what you need if we new some distances from your relatives and line of site and all that. But.. if this set-up is right you will still need the USB Adapter to hook the Coax to the router. undefined |

RE: Need confirmation on Wireless Equipment
ok I don't mind explaining again...The distances of my relatives and friends are like in the front of me on the side and in the back...which is why i choose the omni directional..If I can achieve about lets say 1500ft at 360 degrees it would cover all of them.If I get more distance I won't mind...Oh and I am grateful for the link u gave me with the amp..I think i might go with that option cause i see it has the adapters which might come in handy...But I am a little confused though why u said I would need a usb adapter to hook up the coax to the router...The type of router I have is the wrt54gl..It has removable antenna at the back of the unit..I would be screwing one of them out and using the RP Tnc Female that is attached to it.So i would need to get a RP Tnc Male on one end of the cable..But the link u showed me I think would put me on track..I see one of the adapters appears to be a RP TNC Male...So that would connect screw onto my router and then connect to the amp with the sma male they got there as well..SO GREAT!!!! So far I have the connections from the router to the AMP..thanks for that link with the adapters..Now I just need to get the connectors from the other side of the amp to the Omni antenna I plan to buy...So it seems like I would need a SMA Male to N Male long cable...lets say about 20ft in length...Am i right?

RE: Need confirmation on Wireless Equipment
Nope, you do need a length of cable that will reach from your equipment to the install point.
The omni you chose has a 23 ft cable with RP TNC ends. You'll use the adapters with the amp to install. Dude, I think your golden. I don't see any reason why this hook up won't work. Like I said before though, I don't know if the three items are compatible. I'm sure they are, most companies offer plug-n-play equipment. undefined |
